"It's very discounted rates for these hotels that were occupied through mining workers mostly," she said.
Other corporate-driven markets like Bogotá, Colombia; Santiago, Chile; San José, Costa Rica; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Quito, Ecuador; Montevideo, Uruguay; and Panama City, Panama, all saw continued poor performance, with occupancy consistently below 30%, until some weekend demand began to pick up in just the past few months.
"In 2021, the daily data began picking up some weekend demand spikes as we see more international groups opening up and a few regional events happening, driving some domestic leisure demand," Boo said.
Indeed both leisure and corporate markets have suffered greatly during the pandemic, although leisure demand saw a disproportionate uptick in demand in the final portion of 2020.

PANAMA CITY — When the sun is shining, Back Porch BBQ food boat is on the water, bringing brisket, pulled pork and snowballs to hungry customers on Shell Island.
"I just go to Shell Island and stay in St. Andrew Bay," said Carol McAdam, who owns Back Porch BBQ floating food boat and the companion concession trailer with her husband, Michael McAdam. "As long as the weather's permitting, we're out."
Michael added, "If we're not out, we're cooking."
Back Porch BBQ operates the waterways in a Sun Tracker 32-foot pontoon houseboat turned food boat, where the sleeper has been replaced with a counter and red cabinets accented with a red Hamilton Beach microwave.

a) BACKGROUND
The Indigenous Peoples Alliance for Rights and Development (IPARD) is a five-year United States Agency of International Development (USAID) Global Development Alliance (GDA) with a grant that runs from July August 12, 2020, through August 11, 2025. The IPARD will be implemented through Indigenous National Development (IND) Programs aimed to secure rights, enhance capabilities, and create economic opportunities for Indigenous Peoples in targeted countries worldwide. With an award of $6,500,000 with a Private Sector match of $6,500,000, the FSC Indigenous Foundation will be Implementing Agency convening multi-sectoral alliance including Indigenous Peoples organizations.
The goal of the IPARD Global Partnership is to empower Indigenous Peoples’ organizations and catalyze an enabling environment where Indigenous Peoples can manage and develop, and their land based on the principles of sustainable development, traditional practices, natural resource management, and respect for their customary rights.
