There was a palpable sense of relief and joy when COVID-19 vaccinations were finally rolled out in Hamilton Park Nursing Home in Balbriggan this week, ending months of anxiety for both staff and residents. Hamilton Park Nursing Home has been one of the few nursing homes nationwide to remain COVID- free during the pandemic, but the vaccinations, rolled out on Monday, nevertheless allowed the staff and residents to breath a collective sigh of relief. David Pratt, CEO of Hamilton Park Nursing Home, gave his account of the vaccination rollout: It s going very very well, we re delighted because it s been a very long haul for us, but we ve been one of the few facilities that s managed to stay COVID-free during the past 11 months and for all the staff and all the residents, it s miraculous that we made it. We re all very happy and the staff feel like they succeeded against the odds. ....

The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine arrived last night and was immediately placed in an ultra low temperature fridge. The rollout of the vaccine will then continue to all nursing homes in the county as part of a nationwide programme.
