Switzerland s referendum on the wearing of face coverings in public has passed with the narrowest of margins.
Final results from Sunday s referendum have shown the controversial measure to have passed, 51.2% to 48.8% for a ban on face coverings.
The proposed law includes religious dress including burqa or niqab, worn by Muslim women.
The Central Council of Muslims in Switzerland called it a dark day for Switzerland.

Today s decision opens old wounds, further expands the principle of legal inequality, and sends a clear signal of exclusion to the Muslim minority, said a statement from the Central Council. ....

The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Monday passed by voice vote a bill that checks religious conversions throu­gh marriage or by any other fraudulent means.
The bill earlier replaced the ordinance, cleared by the cabinet in December and promulgated in January, which had provisions of 10 years imprisonment in some cases and hefty fine for violators. On March 1, state Home Minister Narottam Mishra presented the Madhya Pra­desh Freedom of Religion Bill 2021 in the House. After a discussion on the bill, it was passed by voice vote in the Assembly on Monday.
Governor Anandiben Patel on Jan 9 assented the MP Freedom of Religion Ordinance, 2020, which penalised religio­us conversions through frau­d­ulent means. ....

That bill is now headed back to the House for final approval.
Among those who voted were U.S. Senators who represent Alabama, Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Sen. Richard Shelby. Both Senators voted against the bill.
U.S. Sen. Tuberville released a statement Saturday afternoon saying he said voted against the bill because he believes it is a broken promise to the American people.
