BEEFING STRIKEFORCE UP, ADDING WING-BACK DEPTH Barnsley’s squad, assuming they do not sell key players or suffer any major injuries, is deep enough and good enough to compete for a place in the top half of the Championship. They have shown that already this season.  But, if they do manage to bring in another player or players in the final few days of the window, that might just give them a crucial extra edge in the second half of the season.  The Reds were impressively swift in the first week of the window, bringing in the striker and centre-back they had targeted in the form of Carlton ...

Talking points from Cardiff draw

× Doug O'Kane analyses Barnsley's 2-2 draw with Cardiff City in which the Reds lost a 2-0 lead.    ‘SORRY’ REFEREE MADE VITAL ERRORS, BUT REDS ALSO AT FAULT Referee Andy Woolmer took charge of Barnsley’s 2016 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory at Wembley, which almost 30,000 Reds attended.  Nearly five years on, in a behind-closed-doors game, he infuriated the Oakwell club’s supporters watching from home as well as the players and staff in the ground with a poor performance.  Woolmer ruled out a perfectly good Reds goal in the seventh minute, judging that Cauley...

They have lost their three league games since the turn of the year without scoring but the games were against top four sides Norwich, Swansea and Watford.  Cardiff sacked manager Neil Harris o...

Barnsley hunt striker in final ten days of transfer window

× Barnsley are searching for a new striker in the final ten days of the January transfer window.  Winger Luke Thomas was loaned to Ipswich Town this week, meaning the Reds are hoping to bring in some more depth for their front three in Valerien Ismael’s 3-4-3 formation. The Reds are understood to have made a bid for Wigan Athletic's teenage forward Kyle Joseph.  Head coach Ismael told the Chronicle: “I said to the club that, if we let Luke go, we have to get a new striker. We have to find someone before the transfer window is closed and that is our purpose now.”

COMMENT: 2021 could be even better year for Reds if they get January right - Vimarsana News

COMMENT: 2021 could be even better year for Reds if they get January right

× Doug O’Kane looks at Barnsley’s next 5 games as well as theircurrent situation on and off pitch We have just witnessed one of the most unusual, memorable and action-packed years in Barnsley’s history, but 2021 has the potential to be even more special – if January goes well. 2020 saw the Reds collect as many Championship wins, 18, as in the previous three years combined. They avoided relegation in extraordinary circumstances last season, then have picked up as many points at the halfway stage of this campaign as any season since 1999/2000 which ended in a Wembley ...
