School choice is one of many education issues that have become a partisan battleground, bringing parents to the polls this fall

No Child Left Behind (NCLB), a reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, has been slated for its own reauthorization since 2007. Since that time, Congress has considered various proposals to rewrite the 600-page education law, without reaching a consensus, leaving NCLB to continue to operate as it has since 2002. While policymakers agree No Child Left Behind is broken, there is less agreement about how to move forward.

The evidence in favor of the positive benefits of school choice grew considerably stronger this month with the release of a new methodologically rigorous evaluation of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program. The D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program is a school voucher program in Washington, D.C. set up by Congress, which provides students with scholarships to attend private schools of choice.

As the evidence about the benefits of school choice accumulate,opponents need to start inventing new arguments for opposingpolicies that allow parents to choose the best school for theirchildren.
