So, is that kind of the reasoning that you had mentioned about, if we could take any of the payload from this balloon? 100%. i completely agree with that statement. i view this as somewhat of an intelligence when, if you will. for us to be able to hopefully see this intact payload. and i agree with peter, this isn t the first time that something like this has happened and i would assume and hope that the intelligence community and the military was aware of these things happening and didn t know how to counteract its intelligence capability. so i am really leaning towards this being more of an intelligence win for us, and i do believe diplomatically, in this relationship, we may have the upper hand here now. okay, so, tracey, just math wise, when you add up the numbers, nothing that china could have possibly gained before the u.s. would have gotten control of that balloon, would surpass or equal what the u.s. could be getting from the ....

Intelligence officials want to gain insight what china was up to. president biden said the order to shoot down the balloon came directly from him. on wednesday, when i was briefed on the balloon, i ordered the pentagon to shoot it down on wednesday as soon as possible. cnn has team coverage of this very tense moment in u.s./china relations. i want to start with warren lieberman who is over at the pentagon. what are you learning about the recovery effort that is gong on? i say sum that officials want to get their hands on it as quickly as possible. absolutelily. but the debris, what was left of the payload, the length of three school buses has fallen in 47 feet of water. it will take time to pull it up and see what can be retrieved from the satellite. ....

In which the u.s. military, intelligence, all parties have been taking this to now make the decision that it s important to have this temporary flight restriction in place, ground stoppage, at three coastal airports, and to also declare this a national defense air space. first of all, everybody has agreed that this is not a weather balloon, it s a surveillance balloon, and the payload passenger is the size of three school buses. so this is a substantial payload. there s no telling what s in there. this is much bigger than what you would have on a normal spy satellite, the kind that we use. this is massive stuff. so, yes, there was some concern about the bring it down, but i think, also, we want to make sure when we bring it down, we bring it down the right way and we ve got the chance to exploit what s there. we don t want to smash everything and have pieces of ....

Weather balloon and had no intelligence value. he went on to say that explanation lacked any credibility, the u.s. did not believe that. and the u.s. was able to determine what was inside that payload in that balloon and they know that it is of significant intelligence value to the united states. so it will be interesting to see when they examine that what more they can learn about what the chinese government was actually looking for when it launched this balloon, and of course what they were able to obtain while this balloon was over the u.s. territory over the last few days. natasha bertrand, thank you so much. i want to bring back aviation expert pete muntean. so, pete, a little bit more on the jet and the accuracy natasha was just telling us, one jet from langley air force base was able to fire at this balloon and take it down with incredible accuracy. help people understand what we re talking about with this ....

60,000 feet, so as you said if we can see it, that means, it gives you a sense of just how enormous it is, and in addition to that, it has a relatively large payload. if you were to shoot it down or blow it up in space, when it s that high and it s that large, they will not be able to control the debris field. it will be potentially large. it could fall to the ground, potentially injuring civilians, potentially killing, infrastructure, and they can t control it. that s one of the biggest concerns, one of the major reasons, one of the reasons they decided not to shoot it down. thanks for that update. we ll be right back. be right back. fall asleep naturally. plus extended-release b-vitamins. wake up feeling refreshed. pure zzzs. sleep better. wake up your best. 3, 4 wake up feeling refreshed. pure zzzs. hey are you ready for me are you ready are you ready ....
