Connectivity and cost of devices remain a concern

KOTA KINABALU: Internet access and gadgets have become necessities in the teaching and learning at home (PdPR) method during the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, unsatisfactory Internet access and the price of communication gadgets such as smartphones and tablets are the biggest challenges for parents, especially those in Sabah, to ensure the smooth running of PdPR sessions.
Nurse Norliani Mahadi, 43, said Internet access and gadgets were two interdependent factors to ensure online learning was not disrupted.
Norliani, whose 10-year-old child is following the PdPR sessions, said it was common knowledge that Internet access in Sabah was not at a satisfactory level, especially in the rural areas, while Internet packages were still not quite affordable, especially for the B40 group.

Teachers, students and parents facing PdPR challenges

KUALA LUMPUR: Implementation of the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) for students nationwide is not only a challenge to parents but teachers and students as well as they have to face various issues.
A teacher at a school in Putrajaya said the attendance of online classes among students from the “back classes” was quite low.
“For example, student attendance from the first class is 24 out of a total of 27, while the rate among students from the back classes is six out of 19 people.
“Students who are good in their studies will survive while the weak will continue to be left behind.

“Those are on top of the kissing scenes. Perhaps being naked is no big deal in Hollywood but I am not willing to do it.
“I may dress sexily but I will not undress on set to do steamy scenes for a streaming platform in Hollywood, ” said the 30-year-old.
