February 22, 2021 The new St. Joseph city commissioner has been selected on the first vote. Mayor Mike Garey made the nomination last night. “I want to put forward the name of Michele Binkley to fill the next seat for Peggy Getty,” said Garey. “That would be my motion.” Binkley was elected with a 3-1 vote and will be sworn in before the next meeting. She replaces Peggy Getty, who resigned Monday night due to moving to South Bend. Share this:
A new city commissioner will be picked tonight during the St. Joseph City Commission meeting. The commission has interviewed five candidates for the office being vacated by Peggy Getty. Last Monday, they heard from Michele Binkley, Anthony Pastrick, Mike Sarola, Brook Thomas, and Jason Vetne on what they feel are the best ways forward for the city. Commissioners decided they needed more time to go through their notes, and said a decision would be made this evening.
