Behrend partners with Eagle's Nest to offer programming in east Erie

A new partnership with the Eagle’s Nest Leadership Corporation will expand Penn State Behrend’s Open Lab model of learning to neighborhoods on Erie’s east side. Behrend faculty members and students will provide training and workshops in financial literacy, entrepreneurial thinking, STEM learning and other skills.

Truck-Lite moving HQ to Behrend's Knowledge Park

The company hopes to gain better access to tech-savvy students and new Behrend graduates.
Truck-Lite Co., LLC, a worldwide leader in LED lighting systems for commercial vehicles, is relocating its headquarters to Penn State Behrend’s Knowledge Park, where the company will have better access to engineering and technology talent as it prepares for the transportation industry’s shift to electric vehicles in the years to come.
“As the transportation industry shifts toward electric vehicles, developing new innovations for customers relies on our ability to attract, develop and retain qualified talent,” said Brian Kupchella, CEO of Clarience Technologies, the parent company of Truck-Lite. “Relocating our headquarters to Knowledge Park and expanding our association with Penn State Behrend – a major college of one of the country’s top universities, and a longstanding Truck-Lite partner – creates a strong pipeline of future electrical engineers, data scientists and business leaders.”

Cyient joins Open Lab environment at Penn State Behrend's Knowledge Park

ERIE, Pa. — The 5G rollout on America’s east coast will be supported in part by a team at Penn State Behrend’s Knowledge Park, where Cyient, a global engineering, data analytics and networks company, is designing ways to bring fiber-optic cable to individual properties.
The process, known as “Fiber to the Premises,” or FTTP, uses fiber-optic cables and related optical electronics to connect a customer to a broadband network. You’ll know when that happens: A 5G smartphone can be 10 times faster than the average home’s wi-fi.
Cyient has leased an 8,000-square-foot space in Knowledge Park, where the company will have better access to Penn State Behrend’s graduates. Several Behrend alumni already work in the office, which was built to accommodate 65 employees. Half of that team is currently working remotely, due to the pandemic.
