Emergency child care is being made available for the school-aged children of eligible essential workers in our area.
The measure is in place while schools are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Stratford, Perth County and St.Marys, the spaces are being allocated in chronological order from application date and will only be available to those who are listed by Ontario as workers eligible for emergency child care.
Eligible families will also be required to have exhausted all other possibilities for child care.

“I believe we’re mitigating a gap that could potentially exist,” said Kim McElroy, Stratford’s director of social services. “We recognize that this option had to come forward because there would be people that were at a loss, where they would be going to work and may not have the supports needed. Some occupations don’t have the flexibility of working remotely. Therefore, we wanted to ensure that the service is provided in Perth County.”
