A Wuse Zone Six Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday sentenced a 44-year-old businessman, Mahmud Suleiman, to six months imprisonment for threatening his business partner’s life.
The Magistrate, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim, however, gave Suleiman an option of N30, 000 fine.
Ibrahim handed down the sentence after Sulieman pleaded guilty to the crime and prayed for leniency.
“I plead the court to temper justice with mercy.
” I regret my action because what happened was a misunderstanding between I and the complainant,” he had told the court. ....

A 28-year-old cleaner, Idoko Akochi, on Friday appeared in a Wuse Zone Six Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing laptops worth N5.6 million.
The defendant, attached to National Health Insurance Scheme Wuse 11, Abuja, is being tried for theft.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that the complainant, Ahmad Dalhatu of Wuse 11, Abuja, reported the matter at the Maitama Police Station, Abuja, on February 26.
Ejike alleged that on February 25, the defendant stole 16 DELL Laptops, valued at N5.6 million and absconded with the items. ....

A Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Monday, sentenced a 32-year-old carpenter, Sadaam Ibrahim, to 12 months imprisonment for stabbing a ‘suya’ seller.
Ibrahim, who resides in Wuse II, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of causing grievous hurt, an offence he admitted committing.
The magistrate, Abdulajid Oniyangi, pronounced the sentence on Ibrahim after he had pleaded guilty to the charge, begged for leniency and said he stabbed the complainant because he was going to stab him with a knife.
Oniyangi, who said that the punishment would serve as a lesson to the convict to make him change his ways, however, gave him an option of N15,000 fine. ....

A community leader, Danladi Bawa, 70, on Friday, appeared in a Wuse Zone Six Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, for alleged joint act and mischief.
The police charged Bawa and Danjuma John, 42, both of Azhata Community, Durumi, Area1, Abuja, with two counts of joint act and mischief.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that the complainant, Chigbogu Emmanuel, of plot 497 Durumi 1, Abuja, reported the matter at Durumi Police Station, Abuja, on Jan. 11.
Ejike said that on January 9 at about 11 a.m. the defendants, destroyed the complainant’s flower garden. ....
