Another professor, Peter Ogban, similarly accused of election fraud in Akwa Ibom, was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment in 2021.
Peter Ogban, a professor of Soil Science at the University of Calabar, was on 25 March, 2021, sentenced to three years imprisonment for fraudulent manipulation of the 2019 senatorial election results, and publishing and announcing of false results.
Mr Akpabio said, without proof, that he was robbed of victory in the 2019 senatorial election.
