PM says new powers handed to pharmacists will free up around 10 million GP appointments a year
Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge residents who are registered with a Somerset GP can now pop down to their local pharmacy for help with seven minor conditions which would previously have required a GP appointment.
Thousands of pharmacists across England will be able to assess and treat patients for sinusitis, sore throat, earache, infected insect bites, impetigo, shingles and uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women under 65, without the need for a GP appointment or prescription.
Chemists can now prescribe antibiotics and other treatments without patients having to see a doctor.
