Verona Fire District raises alarm, says Turning Stone getting too big to cover
More than a decade after the historic settlement agreement between the Oneida Indian Nation and New York State, the Verona Fire District released a statement saying they receive no money from the Nation, the town of Verona, Oneida County or New York to help their department operate. District officials said the continued growth of Nation businesses, a decreasing tax base, a growth in call volumes and a decrease in membership are the causes of their concerns.
