Is that extra tube there for performance or just looks?
The NOEMA radio telescope, located on the Plateau de Bure in the French Alps, has now reached its full capacity, becoming the most powerful millimetre radio telescope in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the product of a collaboration between the CNRS, the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPG, Germany) and the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN, Spain). Built and operated by the Institut de Radioastronomie Millimétrique (IRAM) and already the source of major discoveries, NOEMA is now poised to make unprecedented observations.
A recent study shows that dense regions help stars lose gas quickly, inhibiting star formation.
Basic Ingredient of Life Discovered in Space A key ingredient of every living cell has been discovered in space, with an influence on theories of how life could have evolved on earth and elsewhere in the Universe. Reset Cell membranes are one of the most important elements of life on Earth holding together the genetic material and metabolic machinery of every living cell. Whilst we know those cell membranes are made of phospholipids, the origin of these molecules with their hydrophobic heads and hydrophobic tails is currently poorly understood. Currently, scientists can’t explain where the...
