Kazius Childress, before his trial resumed Monday, decided plea to second-degree murder in the 2022 fatal shooting of Cordal Lewis. He admitted to shooting multiple times at Lewis, as Lewis was unarmed and running away from him. He faces up to 50 years and must serve a mandatory 35 years before being eligible for parole.
A police investigator said Kazius Childress identified another man as the one who shot Cordal Lewis in January 2022. That man is the person Childress is accused of shooting a day after Lewis was killed.
Witness who saw Kazius Childress fatally shoot Cordal Lewis in 2022 admitted that he lied several times to police because he didn’t want to be involved, fearing for himself and family.
