Heavy snow blanketed much of the southern half of Manitoba as Environment Canada issued a mix of snowfall and winter storm warnings for Tuesday morning.

Tadoule Lake and Brochet in the north were under an extreme cold warning Monday morning, meanwhile a snowstorm warning was issued for parts of southern Manitoba.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather bulletin for the southern half of Manitoba in response to a forecasted dump of snow coupled with strong winds.

When visitors arrive at the office of America Knits in tiny Swainsboro, Ga., the first thing they see on the wall is a black-and-white photo that a company co-founder, Steve Hawkins, discovered in a local antiques store. It depicts one of a score of textile mills that once dotted the area, along with the workers that toiled on its machines and powered the local economy. The scene reflects the heyday — and to Hawkins, the potential — of making clothes in the rural South.

Extreme cold warnings that have been in effect for much of Manitoba for days have been ended in parts of the north but continue for the southern half of the province on Friday.
