Britain’s roads are in a pitiful state. MPs report that their inboxes are filled with constituents’ accounts about how potholes are making simple journeys such as the school run or the supermarket trip a misery. It is not just a matter of inconvenience; the punctured tyres and damaged car suspensions that are a consequence of poorly maintained roads are costly to repair and potentially dangerous.
