"The Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary was originally nominated to cover 7,600 square miles from the southern boundary of the Monterey Bay sanctuary in northern San Luis Obispo County south to Point Conception," writes Dan Haifley in a Guest Commentary. "The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has proposed a smaller area excluding Cambria to Morro Bay to accommodate infrastructure for planned offshore wind production to the sanctuary’s northwest, but a final decision has yet to be made."
