By Ashley Quadros | Special to The Union International Women’s Day (IWD) takes place each year on March 8 and to celebrate women who make a difference, donations to Hospitality House will be matched up to $5,000 by local businesswoman, Lauren Maddux, co-owner of The Event Helper in Grass Valley. For over 100 years, IWD has celebrated the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women as well as equality for all women. Hospitality House is guided under the female leadership of Executive Director Nancy Baglietto. Because the organization is led by a woman and has made profound improvements in the livelihood of others, Maddux is offering this limited-time, dollar-for-dollar match opportunity. Donations to Hospitality House will be personally matched by Maddux through Monday, March 8. A $10 donation will automatically become $20, which, as an example, can provide 40 homeless women, men, children, seniors and veterans with personal protective equipment to stay safe and healthy during the pandemic.
Submitted by Ashley Quadros When a small group of donors learned about the challenges that Hospitality House faces in operating a shelter during a public safety power shutoff (PSPS), in addition to other outages that might come about throughout the year, they listened, learned and took action to help Hospitality House acquire a much-needed, full-building generator. “When you have a group of people without options who are depending on you for food and lodging, uninterrupted power becomes a critical need,” explained one of the project donors, who wished to remain anonymous. Collectively, the project donors provided the financial support needed to help Hospitality House introduce a new 70kW commercial Generac generator at the shelter, which has the strength to power the entire building. Two operating transfer switches are designed to tell the generator to fire up and power the building immediately when it detects no electricity, ensuring the shelter continues to operate as safely as possible without disruption.
