On May 26, 2023 state fisheries managers announced they were closing the Yukon River to salmon fishing in early June. On May 31, state fisheries biologists and troopers flew to communities on the Y-K Delta to talk about the closures and about enforcement.
The federal government will manage the Yukon River salmon fishery this summer where the river passes through federal lands.
Only federal subsistence users who live along the river will be allowed to fish for salmon in the federal waters of the Yukon River.
