that first bill was pulled in north carolina. he was on the phone with mike pence like the whole time, negotiating. and then they got to come back and do that. the senate wants this to get through before the july 4th recess, which is, of course, the end of next week. so it s a different process. the one thing they re doing the house didn t do is the amendments, so you could see the bill changing kind of in realtime next week. but you can also see democrats putting just globs and globs of amendments to try to slow down the process, make this poison pill amendments and make this bill go down that way. jonathan, speaking to sources and friends, because i want to real quickly get to this post report, sources and friends in d.c. that are just kind of really reeling about this story that they had about president obama s efforts to thwart and punish russia, the rock and hard place he was in between during the election. here s what the cia director, mike pompeo, just told hugh hewitt who air
ammendments which really isn t all that surprising. one would force iran to admit that israel has the right to exist and from the beginning the president said let s keep these matters separate. another would require the white house to make sure that iran is not sponsoring terrorism targeting the united states. critics call those poison pill amendments because they could really derail the ongoing talks with iran. the deadline is june 30th. where do things stand in the senate right now. mitch mcconnel says they are trying to reach an agreement to take up a few more of those amendments but time at this point is clearly becoming a factor. i don t know how many times you guys want to ask the same questions but we re going to move forward. he gave a very quick answer there. sounds like senator mcconnel will start the clock later today or perhaps tomorrow shep. and these amendments those who said that largely this was
get to vote on any agreement. we re back now with the panel. yogi, what do you make in the senate over a bill that would give congress a right of approval over a deal and the claim by iranian leaders that if congress were to vote down any deal it s the u.s. that would be isolated, not the iranians? i think on the latter point, at least optically that s true. if a deal was voted down by congress the russians and chinese desperate to go back in business with the iranians french and germans want to go back. they will blame the u.s. we did our part. u.s. you want to keep sanctions on fine, we will go back and make money again. it s true optical sense. the talks are an interesting point. the senate, bob corker got a victory, they wanted to view the bill. he said he would veto. then he backed down and said fine i i won t veto the bill. corker has a win. he is fighting so hard to make sure that the poison pill amendments that are
stuff. he believes it s useful for him him to say it. as we know, you are a member of the house of representatives. mr. mcconnell is in the senate. let s turn to mcconnell s counterpart in the house is, speaker john boehner. what is your analysis for him after the failed farm bill vote which let s be honest, is entirely of his own making? there s no question about that. i mean, there was the environment to do a farm bill on a bipartisan basis. right. he allowed some poison pill amendments to be passed that lost him virtually all democratic support and he into you that would happen. speaker boehner has a real problem on his hands. he has about almost half of his conference of the republican members were elected in the last two years. they re very, very quefrt conservative. they come from virtually all white districts not representative of america as a whole and they really are not vulnerable to anything except a challenge from the even farther right.
