CINCINNATI — Despite a steady rain, a large crowd gathered at the New Prospect Baptist Church in Roselawn to rally for stronger accountability for police officers involved in incidents of brutality, or where someone was killed.
The rally was led by the Cincinnati Anti-Police Brutality Coalition, a group initially organized in June 2020 in response to the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor; The group has continued to host rallies and meetings for others who have died in interactions with police officers.
"I hope the impact is that folks realize that there are more George Floyds," said Cory Brown, a coordinator with the group. "There are more cases like this that are not getting the recognition or the acknowledgment that they need."

Chauvin verdict: Cincinnati reacts after officer is guilty on all counts

The Enquirer
A Minnesota jury found former police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter Tuesday in the death of George Floyd last May.
Outside the Hamilton County Courthouse Tuesday night a crowd of about 30 gathered in response to the verdict. Barriers had been in place all week in the anticipation of the news out of Minneapolis.
“Guilty on three," a man shouted through a megaphone.
Banners were hung from the barriers saying: "Jail killer cops" and "Reopen all cases."
“I felt such relief I had tears running down my face when I saw he was found guilty," Azzy Quinones said. "There’s so many cases where we see cops obviously kill people and that doesn’t happen."

Protesters gather at courthouse after shooting of Daunte Wright

Around 100 protesters gathered outside of the Hamilton County Courthouse on Thursday to protest the recent fatal shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright by a Minnesota police officer.
The protest began at 6 p.m. and was organized by Cincinnati for Justice and the Anti-Police Brutality Coalition.
Organizers say the event was meant to speak out against police violence, stand in solidarity with Wright's family and bring attention to the names of people killed in altercations with police in order to have their cases reopened.
"It's just not fair, but we're going to keep this fight going," said Robin Scott, whose son, 26-year-old Melvin Murray Jr., was killed after a brief pursuit with police in 2015.
