New Delhi, Feb 3 : Apart from the barbed wires and iron spikes at Singhu, Tiki and Ghazipur, the Delhi Police have opened a new front to combat the invisible force it has to deal with and that is the rumours. Since the January 26 violence, the police have been dealing with a plethora of ‘rumours’ and fake news.
According to the police, malicious and fake news was spread regarding the death of a farmer at ITO on Republic Day. The police said he died after his tractor overturned during the farmers’ protest march, but some media outlets and Twitter handles of journalists and politicians claimed otherwise. The Delhi Police later filed a case at the IP estate police station of Central Delhi. ....

The Cyber Prevention Awareness and Detection (CyPAD) unit of Delhi Police has registered four cases against several social media accounts in connection with sharing and uploading of alleged fake posts during the Republic Day violence, officers said on Wednesday.
Om Prakash Dhetarwal, 29, a resident of Churu district in Rajasthan, has been arrested for allegedly posting an old video along with fake news of resignation of 200 police personnel.
Another person has been apprehended from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, for posting similar fake news. ....

New Delhi [India], February 2 (ANI): Delhi Police Cyber Cell arrested a person on Monday from Rajasthan on charges of spreading fake news about resignations of police personnel due to the ongoing farmers agitation.
A social media campaign had been going on for the past two days propagating false rumours regarding disaffection in police ranks. Old, unrelated videos were being posted with fake news of the resignation of police personnel.
Cyber Prevention Awareness and Detection (CyPAD) unit of the Delhi Police registered a criminal case against Om Prakash Dhetarwal and later on arrested him. Om Prakash belongs to Churu District of Rajasthan. ....
