The Uttar Pradesh Assembly has passed the UP Lift and Escalator Bill, 2024, aimed at enhancing high-rise resident security. It mandates lift agency's registration, emergency drills, CCTV installation, and insurance cover. Many however cited lack of accident penalties to criticise the bill.
