India plans to force smartphone makers to allow removal of pre-installed apps and mandate screening of major operating system updates under proposed new se..
Users of smartphones, especially Apple iPhone, Samsung and Xiaomi phones will now be able to remove many pre-installed applications such as Pay Mini, Safari browser and GetApps.
"Pre-installed apps can be a weak security point and we want to ensure no foreign nations, including China, are exploiting it. It's a matter of national security," an official added.
The Indian government, according to the report, has agreed to give smartphone manufacturers a year to comply once the law takes effect.
