Hundreds of cops are being forced to spend Christmas in makeshift campsites near border checkpoints after states and territories implemented draconian closures. Victoria police deployed to patrol the New South Wales border have even had to bring their own meals and sleeping bags with them, the police union claimed. Four travellers from New South Wales have breached self-isolation orders in Queensland. The Sunshine State shut its borders to Greater Sydney at 1am on Monday, with Queensland residents allowed until 1am Tuesday to return. Cars are crossing the New South Wales border into Victoria without being checked, according to a local mayor, after a state government request for additional Defence support was met with a limited response.
