Will appeal the landmark ruling out of oklahoma that found the pharmaceutical giant liable for helping to create the opioid epidemic. yesterday the judge ordered them to pay some half a billion dollars to the state saying it misled the public about the addictive nature of opioids. johnson & johnson says the decision is flawed. the way in which the company manufactured these medications and marketed them to doctors was extremely responsible. there are warnings on these medications, fda approved warnings and it is up to the doctor, with their patients, to make decisions about who is appropriate for these medications. doctors do the prescribing, but they do it based on the information that the drug companies gave. they went to every doctor and said, look, there is a less than 1% chance of becoming addicted if you use our drugs every day. ....

Testify on their behalf. what they didn t know is that doctor had given a speech in private here in oklahoma a few years before where he said, hey, here s what really happened, we all know what happened. they came in and told us to prescribe more opioids to anybody who was in pain, and who asked for them, and so that s what we did. and we all know now that was wrong and you can t do that anymore. but the argument is that if the doctors who actually do prescribing, not johnson & johnson, what s your response to that specific argument? doctors do the prescribing but they do it based on the information that the drug companies gave. so let me give you an example of that. so if you went to the doctor and said, hey, doctor, i ve got very bad lower back pain, and i ve heard a lot about these opioids, i want to know if i take them, am i at risk of becoming an addict, is that something that could that happen to me. ....

These are much bigger numbers than any of these court settlements can even come up with. that s correct. if we look back in five years, because we have the science to deal with this, so we can look back in five years to say we fixed this, we nailed this, what will have to happen to get us there? this is an epidemic of opioid use. as part of that use it will be but we ve got to stop the everyday prescribing of opioids for minor pain and for chronic pain. and when you go to the dentist and you have a wisdom tooth yeah, they give you an envelope sometimes. 30 days. you need two pills. maybe you need three pills. if you need any. if you re 16, 17, you need aspirin or you need tylenol. you don t need a narcotic for every time there s a little pain. and we ve got to stop the prescribing of these opioids. money, the 572 million in this care, the money they re talking to purdue-b where does the money go and where should it go? well, in the oklahoma case, ....
