a man who attended the rally that led to the capitol insurrection and also now the man who won the republican nomination for the governor s race there. he will now face pennsylvania s attorney general josh shapiro in the general election. a lot going on in pennsylvania. so let s go there. cnn s athena jones is starting us off live in lancaster, pennsylvania, with more on this deadlocked senate race. what s the latest that you re picking up? reporter: you mentioned, we re talking about the two leading candidates trading the lead back and forth. in the wee hours of last night. a lot to be determined. could be very close causing a recount. there s a problem though because a lot of votes still need to come in counties across the state. this is one of those counties. lancaster county where we learned early yesterday that about 22,000 mail-in ballots were misprinted with the wrong code, so they could not be scanned by the machines. here you see a room full of county staffer ....
Pennsylvania. they all have a little bit different way of counting ballots and since 2020 when they went to a massive mail-in voting system all have been doing and counting that in different procedures and a little bit of that is coming out right now. here in allegheny county, officials tell us they is had 155,000 mail in-votes come in. they imagined to count all of them by 3:00 p.m. another outstanding thousand or so that they will work through counting and processing through the rest of the evening. that s the picture there. there is lucerne county. they had a bit of a printing issue. they ran out of paper there. so that s the only county where they are going to have polls close at 10:00 p.m. tonight as opposed to 8:00 p.m. for the rest of the state. big news here from the fetterman campaign is that they sued a couple of days ago when it came to ballots and writes the date on the back of them state law says you have got to put the date on it. supreme court sided with republicans who ....
And every county will be reporting their unofficial returns by next tuesday. so we will have a sense very soon as far as how many mail-in ballots are yet to be counted. do you have a sense of how many counties have counting left to do? you know, every county, you know, last night, about half of the counties in pennsylvania that had completed ballots, but many of the counties are continuing to count and they will continue to count over the next few days. but no firm number on how many counties are still out there and who still has the most outstanding? not right now. so i mentioned the 22,000 mail-in ballots in lancaster that need to be hand counted now or looked over once again because of a printing issue. can you talk to me about what happened in lancaster? how does this issue of misprinting still happen? sure. so in lancaster county, they worked with a vendor to print ....
Candidates came in second place in some house districts they really want to flip to take back the house that is good enough for now because they made it to the ballot. according to the democratic congressional campaign committee as we await final results in districts the democrats are in a stronger position than ever to take back the house and winning districts in california will be central to that path. turnout was relatively soft here yesterday. 21.8% statewide. despite weeks of television ads blanketing the airwaves and the campaign flyers clogging mailboxes up and down the west coast. there was a major primary day problem in l.a. county where a printing issue left 118,000 voters names off the rolls. the registrar tried to warn anybody whose name was missing to file provisional ballot. but for anyone who didn t get the message by 8:00 last night, no way to cast a boll boll ballot now. the senate primary is between dianne feinstein and the more liberal state senator kevin de leon. ....
