01 Mar 2021 - 9:31 The Peninsula Doha: The Fire Station: Artist in Residence and the Painting and Printmaking Department at VCUarts Qatar have kicked off a virtual lecture series titled ‘Decolonizing Art Narratives: Arab Women Artists Today’ in which 14 women artists are coming together to explore gender, politics, colonialism, culture and identity. The year-long academic lecture series features a dynamic group of Arab female artists and practitioners across various disciplines and locales in the Middle East who will revisit and consider how best to reshape existing narratives. Khalifa Al Obaidly, Director, Fire Station, said: “The Fire Station is honoured to partner with VCUarts Qatar to present this pertinent lecture series. The series provides a platform for some of the region’s most inspirational female artists to collectively discuss what it means to be an artist in the context of modern societal norms and challenges.” ....
