Train network grinds to a complete halt. only one in ten services are running a 50,000 workers staged a walk out in the biggest rail strike over pay and conditions. let us stick with that story. more than 50,000 rail workers are taking part in the biggest strike on the network in britain for decades. the action is part of a long running dispute about pay, jobs and conditions. the red lines on this map are the only parts of the rail network where some trains will run, starting late and finishing very early. no trains are running between london and major cities including edinburgh, brighton and newcastle. joining me from london euston station is simon calder, travel editor for the independent. thank you forjoining us, we had a brief overview of parts of the country which are affected, but where do you see particular problem areas being? we ....

And i included florida here because we had a rare january tornado, and there were injuries. more on that in a moment. we are getting some good news. it looks like it s coming to an end soon in the nashville area. east of there it was really significant icing. still a bit of icing in problem areas where the temperatures are trying to drop low enough that it s all snow in the south. but even in atlanta they re getting more south of atlanta. but everything s going to refreeze overnight tonight. some good news for raleigh. their temperatures are rising so their snow has changed to rain which means the peak has probably passed. but northward there are areas of concern in the piedmont and virginia and will lose power probably for millions in the next 24 hours. here s the storm moving up. coastal flooding a concern. coastal jersey up into connecticut and rhode island, long island as well, significant snowfall not just in the appalachians. ....

Where the minority s rights are respected and they are able to be heard, but without the power to totally obstruct, and that is really the issue that we are trying to try to find a path through. those are the discussions that we are having. joe manchin believes in voting rights. he was a governor. he was a secretary of state. and he was the principal author of the voting rights bill that we have on the floor, the right to vote act. so this is something that is important to him but he also believes in the role of the senate as, you know, a bipartisan body. he believes the filibuster protects the rights of the minorities and forces that discussion. the problem areas that don t work and voting rights is one, where we have seen essentially no interest whatsoever on the republican side from even addressing this issue and, yet, it s the issue that is sort of underlining everything else that the country stands for and that we do around here. ....
