Islamabad: Professor Dr Ayaz Afsar assumed his duties on Monday as vice-president (academics) at the International Islamic University (IIU). Earlier, Prof Afsar was serving as Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Literature.
He has also served as Chairman Department of English for 3 years. He also is the founder and Editor of Journal of Contemporary Poetics of the Department of English. Prof Afsar did his M.Phil in Applied Linguistics (2000) and PhD in English Literature (2004) from the University of Manchester in the UK. He did post-doc from the University of Manchester (2012) and another post-doc from the University of Birmingham in the UK (2014). ....

Poet, educationist Prof Qazi Jamil dies

HARIPUR: Renowned poet, journalist and educationist Prof Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman died here Friday night.
He was 71 and left behind a widow and three sons. Qazi Jamil was admitted to Corona Ward of Haripur DHQ Hospital about two weeks ago when his condition worsened and he tested Corona-positive. He remained on ventilator for more than a week but could not survive and breathed his last Friday night and Dr Mehvish, in-charge Corona Ward, confirmed his cause of death as Corona-positive.
He was buried in his ancestral graveyard of Sera-e-Saleh on Saturday where poets, journalists, teachers, his former students and local people attended his funeral prayer. ....

It was an honour he wanted to bestow upon me. I had never met him, though. Before I could send a note of compliance, he sent me a copy of his book,
Trek to Pakistan. I was especially delighted that he had sent it to me via Pakistan Post which was more economical than the illegal couriers. It still is. ....

President General (PG) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, has asked the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and all those championing the cause of separation from Nigeria to drop the idea, saying Igbos have no reason to separate from Nigeria.
He told the agitators to understand that Igbo nation was not at war with anyone or the rest of the country.
The Ohanaeze leader specifically warned Kanu against his agitation for Biafra as a separatist state, stressing that such demand was beyond him, noting that Ndigbo has nothing pending before any institutional authority that demands a separate existence from Nigeria. ....

th, in Nature Communications, strong preclinical results for a new COVID-19 vaccine, developed by the team of Prof. Salanti from University of Copenhagen, ExpreS
2ion Biotech, its joint venture partner AdaptVac and the PREVENT-nCoV consortium, was published. Based on these results, a
clinical trial application (CTA) for a clinical Phase I/II study for the COVID-19 vaccine has been submitted.
About the preclinical results
Readouts from the data show that ABNCoV2 has the potential to be the best-in-class COVID-19 vaccine with a more than 100-fold higher level of neutralizing antibodies compared with published preclinical animal data from currently approved COVID-19 vaccines, such as Pfizer-BioNTech s, Moderna s, and AstraZeneca-Oxford s vaccines.
