"Project Trellis was initially created to be a business support mechanism for the cannabis community. And that was done in great part because the cannabis community is currently not eligible for federally funded business support and business assistance. This Project Trellis was created to fill that void," Humboldt County Economic Development Director Scott Adair said.

Voting four to one — with 3rd District Supervisor Mike Wilson dissenting — the board adopted new rules for Project Trellis, a local program meant to bolster the local cannabis industry via grant money because if they didn’t, they wouldn’t receive $1.2 million from the last round of state disbursements or be eligible for future state funds.
If the county wants to apply for any additional Cannabis Equity Grants from the state, they must modify several aspects of the local cannabis equity program called Project Trellis, which funds local cannabis projects. The California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development asked the county to remove several requirements for applicants, including residency in Humboldt County, having a business in Humboldt County, requiring at least five years of residency between 1971 and 2016 and increasing business ownership interest from 20% to 51%.
