A memorandum of understanding between Lippert Excavation and Bonner County to allow hauling on Providence Road was approved at the commissioners’ Tuesday morning meeting.

The Providence Subdivision should not be approved, and yet, it looks like it already has, even though another meeting is still on the Planning and Zoning board agenda. Having lived in Kootenai Meadows for over 42 years, I have walked on and hunted on this proposed subdivision property when it was clearly marked and taped off for wetlands. So tell me, how does it go from being a wetland where geese, ducks, and other wildlife drink from the waters to being completely dry and suitable for 116 proposed home sites?

At the planning and zoning hearing, at which the commission approved the 116-unit Providence Subdivision, commissioner Luke Webster’s comment regarding the complaints of the already dangerous traffic congestion was that Seattle’s 405 is an example of real traffic congestion, implying the current situation before adding 1,079 trips a day is all relative. Are you kidding me? How flippant and so unbecoming of a commissioner who is supposed to work for his constituents.

Recently, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved a substandard, low-end, 116-unit development on Providence Road. This development will add a third of the population to Kootenai but requires not a single dollar in improvements or revenue for the city.
