A San Antonio family will donate a beloved family heirloom, a rare 1932 Ford Model B automobile, to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History Oct.
The museum first opened in 1995 to tell the story of the thousands of African Americans who worked as porters on Pullman sleeping cars, starting shortly after the Civil War and lasting well into the 20th century.

Plans for Labor Day at the Pullman National Monument include events from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 5. It will feature site tours led by rangers, neighborhood walks guided by the Historic Pullman Foundation and an actor portraying Mother Jones to discuss women and the labor movement.
Long overshadowed by the porter men, the maids were smaller in number. Often they were the only Black female employee within a Pullman car.
