Expressing concern over an increase in roof-collapse and electrocution incidents in the last few weeks due to heavy rains, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee asked all departments concerned to finalise a strategy to deal with such emergencies.
The meeting, chaired by Provincial Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti and Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik, reviewed arrangements for dealing with possible floods and the situation caused by monsoon rains.
It was also decided in the meeting to ban bathing in all rivers and streams across the province. Addressing the meeting, Bhatti said with better planning, natural calamities such as floods could be dealt with effectively. The departments should pay special attention to enhance their capacity to deal with natural disasters, he remarked.

LAHORE: To meet the targets set by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), the Punjab government has decided to launch a door-to-door coronavirus vaccination campaign from July 26 in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Rawalpindi.
The decision was taken at a meeting jointly chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik and provincial minister for health Dr Yasmin Rashid at the Civil Secretariat here on Saturday. Other senior officials also attended the meeting, according to a handout.
Dr Yasmin Rashid said the NCOC had set a target of vaccinating 40 per cent of the population over 18 years in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Multan and 70 per cent of Rawalpindi population by Aug 14. She directed that the number of drive-through vaccination centres in Lahore be increased to facilitate more people.

LAHORE: Seeking report on corona vaccination of government employees, Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik directed that special attention be paid to administering vaccine to officials of major departments, including police and education. He issued this direction while presiding over a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat here on Monday.
The meeting reviewed the situation of corona pandemic, pace of vaccination and stock of vaccines. The administrative secretaries of health departments gave a detailed briefing that the pandemic is under control but the threat of a fourth wave still persists. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that eradication of coronavirus is possible only through implementation of SOPs and vaccination. He said that according to the guidelines of NCOC, the targets of vaccination would be met, adding that the purpose of walk-in vaccination is to vaccinate as many people as possible.

'Meeting with corps commander': LHC CJ seeks explanation from Punjab CS for skipping appearance

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan Tuesday sought a written explanation from Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik for skipping his previous appearance in a case on the pretext that he was busy in a meeting with the corps commander.
The chief justice was hearing a petition by Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), seeking recovery of the outstanding payment from the government. At the previous hearing Punjab Secretary for Information Raja Jahangir had appeared before the court. However, the chief justice summoned the chief secretary when found the information secretary trying to twist the facts about unpaid dues to the television channels under the head of advertisements. The court was informed that the chief secretary was busy in a meeting with the corps commander and the chief justice issued a notice to the secretary defence, requiring complete record, agenda and the decisions taken at that meeting. On Tuesday, director legal of the defence ministry appeared before the court, along with a report, which showed that there was no meeting of the corps commander with the chief secretary on the said date.
