Before you see that vote. it takes coming down to the wire, unfortunately, too much in washington to get the answer to occur. we re only punting. it s going to make march madness a new definition. the sequester has only been postponed for two months. does this process bother you, the fact that we got here and so far congressional approval is now down to something like 5%. wherever you go, people are upset and embarrassed by this. i think that the house should be pretty embarrassed for how they ve negotiated. president obama came out and said he wanted to balance the ratio is 41-1 tax hikes to spending cuts. if you think about it, it raises spending because it delays the sequester. we re raising spending and raising taxes. that is a deal senate republicans felt comfortable with, but talking with members of the house, they do not have the majority of the g.o.p. caucus. the g.o.p. is losing more ....

Unemployment benefits for those people who are having a hard time finding a job. so, i think there was a lot in here for middle and low-income families, things that we weren t necessarily guaranteed we were going to get a week ago, so i m not sure i agree totally with senator harkin on that. some of the issues not addressed no entitlement reform, no reform of the tax code, obviously, a punting on the sequester. was this also a big missed opportunity? well, you know, i m one who doesn t believe that you can do entitlement reform, changes to medicare, medicaid, social security, things that affect tens of millions of people, in this kind of a process, up against a deadline, two or three people negotiating. that s not the way to do this. it would have no credibility if we changed those programs substantially in this kind of a process. so, and i think the same argument can be made about sequester. when we re trying to decide whether to protect medicaid, education spending, food stamps ....

Understand what is going on. that is pretty much the big concession, pretty much the punting will be fred upton on energy in congress. will have to figure out how to achieve 500 billion or so in medicaid/medicare cuts. sam, there has been debate on what the accurate measure of inflation is for both changes in tax rates and government benefits. if they enact this change to that measurement, their argument will be this is simply a more accurate measurement of what inflation really is. for to use for these benefits. is there any chance, is there any chance that this will be seen by the democratic side as in fact, a more accurate measurement, rather than simply a way to cut benefits? it is a good question. on the one hand you had nancy pelosi going on msnbc saying she ....

Anything? i am not shocked. because it is not that different than what he put out in the 2011 negotiations. but the big difference is the chained cpi, the only thing that folks really need to know about it, is it is a way of cutting social security benefits and slightly raising taxes. but because democrats and republicans alike say oh, we re just changing the measure of inflation tending to be a little too complicated for anybody to figure out before they understand what is going on. that is pretty much the big concession, pretty much the punting will be fred upton onss. will have to figure out how to achieve 500 billion or so in medicaid/medicare cuts. sam, there has been debate on what the accurate measure of inflation is for both changes in ....

The election and again now that are more people will blame republicans and the president if there is no deal. so i think republicans need to really tread carefully. look, i think it hurts everybody politically if we go over the fiscal cliff. republicans will pay a larger price. it s about making sure they don t drive themselves off a middle class cliff by digging their heels into lower rates. actual hadly have lower rates for the wealthy than the wealt tripp, you work for a group you re saying, hey, we stand for principle but you re not there to win elections. you re there to win policy fights. right. the fact is, if republicans could be some concern is republicans pulling away from the vote. hopefully good policy makes good politics. in this case, if we can see the tax issue, that s not going to fix the problem. the drivers of the debt is spending but also is is entitlement and boehner punting, capitulated to the white ....
