Inmates are Pushing Back Against Working in U.S. Prisons
For more than three weeks, prisoners in Alabama went on strike — refusing to work and demanding humane prison conditions. Alabama's prisons have some of the highest rates of homicide and rape in the country, according to a 2019 Department of Justice report. The Department of Justice has called the state "deliberately indifferent" to prisoner harm.
