As of August 4, Quebec has reported 407 total cases of monkeypox, a virus whose symptoms include skin lesions, usually in the mouth or genital area. In response, Montreal has created a free pop-up vaccination clinic located in the Village (1254, rue Sainte-Catherine E.) through Pride Week and vaccinations are available at multiple locations by appointment on clic santé.
All the cases have been reported in the province of Quebec, PHAC Canada said in a statement, adding that samples are being received for confirmatory testing from multiple jurisdictions, reports Xinhua news agency.
Interim National Public Health Director Dr. Luc Boileau said Thursday that the total number of confirmed monkeypox cases in Quebec had risen to 25. Other possible cases involving lesions on the skin, a symptom of the disease, are under investigation.
