does when he is in that courtroom. among the moments today, i was saying that there were a few emotional moments. >> one of those there was a woman who went to his hand the microphone during the voir dire process is they're going through the questionnaire. she said and i'm quoting her here. i'm sorry, i thought i could do this. i wouldn't want someone who feels this way to judge my case either. but jurors have been very forthright. it seems at least in reading the transcripts, as i've been doing& jeremy's according, can you walk us through what that was like? >> well, i'm not allowed to draw their faces so i can't i can't get to the jurors. >> but she was very emotional, tears and tissues and i just too bad. >> i wish i could have drawn her. yeah. >> do you notice a difference with this trial and other trials again, you've been doing this for decades. is there anything different in that? >> i don't think i've ever seen people get so nervous or anxious about actually being a juror on a trip and why do you think that is i don't know that

that is this trial moving at the pace you expected well honestly, i thought it would take longer to pick a jury and state court, but i admire the way he's handled it. he's moved it along quickly, which is probably the right thing to do in this particular case, the longer it takes a longer people are going to have second thoughts. it's good to get the jury is seated and sworn. i think he did get fairly in every way and i don't think it was overly fast. i think it was thorough, it carefully planned, a good questionnaire. the lawyers had time to ask their questions. so while it was faster than i expected, i don't think he was railroaded and i don't think it's too fast. >> as you know, judge, there's been a lot of scrutiny over juror number 11, who said she doesn't like trump's persona, that she thinks he seems quote, very selfish and self-serving direct quotes were you surprised the judge borussia didn't dismiss her? would you have done so in his shoes? i

paper that didn't look like they were the questionnaire. they seem to have charts or graphs on them. but then when his attorneys began questioning the jurors and asking them specifically what their opinion was of donald trump again, he turned his chair in their direction. he was craning as next, so he would be able to see them engaged again at that moment when they were being asked specifically their opinion of him. well interesting and kara scannell. thank you very much joining us now, the former us attorney for the southern district of new york, a good friend of the situation room preparer or preet. very much for joining us. what's your reaction to trump's demeanor today? and him saying, again, he would take the stand in his own defense. >> when taking the second question. first, i don't believe it for a minute. his been talking for years with respect to various investigations of him, including by special counsel, bob muller, and impeachment inquiry is that he was sit and give testimony. he's not going to do it. i think he likes to pretend that he has the fortitude and the courage to do that. if you will, with respect

and trump fans want to have happen. they want to poison the outcome. they want to undermine the system of justice and the risk that these individuals are taking is an important risk but it should be the kind of risk that they sit there like, we have laid out people crying and breaking down because of the stress of sitting on a jury. >> it is interesting because i think that what you said, i think that is unexpected that jesse watters did that. what you are seeing in the courtroom, and donald trump was admonished by the judge for it and i will be watching for more of this. it is the idea. there was one juror who was being questioned and was going to the questionnaire and he was making gestures to her. he was sighing audibly. and the judge said, i don't want to see any more of that sort of jury intimidation again. that is the sort of thing we will be looking for in the courtroom and i think that will be unnerving to some of the

down so they are not going back and being exposed to other folks and potentially in danger? i think that is not a crazy thing to say. >> i don't have a ton of critiques of judge juan merchan at this time. i think parts of the questionnaire should not have been read out loud, particularly things like where people work for example. i think we learned early in the week that that was a mistake and was a bad idea and he did correct that. i think the important thing viewers need to understand is that it is a dangerous line because you can't have a conversation to say that donald trump needs to be treated like every other defendant but then make special rules on how jurors are picked and make it too much of a different process. that is the risk you run and the other direction people might not think about, granted,

jurors. some of them may shrug it off. everybody is different. we even saw that level of intimidation. you have fox saying what they are saying which i expected it. and then you have donald trump in the courtroom doing something very real to the jurors that can be quite intimidating to them and should not be allowed. >> charles, should the judge have even allowed this questionnaire to have gone through verbally? wouldn't it have protected these potential jurors a little more if they could have written their answers to these questions and then, seeing these transcripts and what people are witnessing in the courtroom, the reporters and donald trump himself, the back and forth about very specific things. and said, folks seem to be just exposing themselves on the stand. the second part of that is, do you think the judge should -- i believe the legal term is sequester but lock the jury

normally happen during jury selection but he said to all the jurors when they came in, if you have a reason you don't want to serve, if you feel very strongly about the former president and you just want out of here, if you have a family obligation, you don't have to explain it. so the people left and already made a decision they want to go forward. and then the stress really happened. part of it came when, after the jurors have to answer the questionnaire and they go through 42 questions. it is a lot of questions. after that, the government and the defense each get to question the jurors and some of the questions particularly from the defense were quite poignant. on friday morning, one woman started to cry and said, this is just more stressful then i thought. she had tears. very emotional. she had a private conversation with the judge and she was excused. and then friday, i think it was

the situation of the trial they were going to oversee and eventually decide the possible fate of the former president of the united states and the presumptive republican nominee for president. there were jurors, for instance, that were seated on the first day who came back the next day and said i slept on it and thought about it but i cannot be impartial. if you ever part of our coverage one of the first questions that judge juan merchan asked before giving the questionnaire, can you be impartial? folks that raise their hands actually left the courtroom . there were other folks that felt like they could be impartial. when thinking further about it, they felt as if they could not bring was a woman just yesterday who said she had fear and anxiety, thinking about the possibility of serving in this jury. she just could not do it. she got so emotional. she was sobbing when talking to the judge in open court. let me remind you for a moment

working our way to find the five alternates, the five remaining slots that must be filled to round out the jury pool that could lead to opening statements taking place on monday. just one example of one of the individuals who has so far gone through the 42 questionnaire but not been booted at this point is a woman -- sorry, a male who said, quote, that he volunteered for getting out the vote for the democratic party during the clinton campaign and attended the women's march in 2017. now, this is the process where this individual also said that he currently doesn't hold strong opinions about donald trump, he's made it through this 42-question questionnaire, we'll get to the voir dire process and close to an hour from now and that's where the defense team for donald trump will be able to further ask this individual questions. but this is a moment where on the flip side you also have seen another juror say that they had read "art of a deal," one was a
