Created: June 16, 2021 06:41 PM (ABC 6 News) - The Rochester Police Department Community Action Team partnered with three local mechanic shops Wednesday evening in an effort to stop the theft of catalytic converters. The spree of thefts has stretched back the last year, with eight being stolen in May this year. For comparison, none were stolen in May of 2020. The parts are sprayed with the letters RPD at Jiffy Lube on Commercial Drive SW, Quicklane Tire and Auto Center on 2nd St. SW and Valvoline Instant Oil Change on 55th St NW. By marking the catalytic converters with RPD, we think it s a vidual deterrant for thieves that they may not take that catalytic converter, Rochester Police Dpeartment officer James Marsolek said. All the businesses were super excited to partner with us regarding this event. They thought it s a great idea and wanted to be a part to try and help the community. ....
