Experts say penetration of Covid into rural India may have also impacted the availability of workers at the worksite. “The second wave of Covid has impacted rural India more and hence not much economic activity on the ground as lockdowns were strictly imposed across the states,” said Himanshu, professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Centre must scrap curbs on import of pulses - The Hindu BusinessLine

Centre must scrap curbs on import of pulses
May 13, 2021
The quantity restrictions have outlived their utility
The pulses market deserves close policy attention. The quantitative restrictions (QRs) imposed by the government on select pulses like tur/arhar (pigeonpea), urad (black matpe) and moong (green gram) in August 2017 are possibly outliving their utility under the present circumstances.
The rationale that existed nearly four years ago — to prop up weak domestic prices and support growers here from the so-called onslaught of imported pulses — does not apply any more. Current market prices of these pulses are well above the minimum support price (MSP) announced by the government; and importantly, QRs have not helped expand domestic cultivation to any significant extent.

There may be no fans at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium tonight but there will be no dearth of excitement when reigning champions Al Sadd will take on Al Arabi in the first semi-final of the Amir Cup.
The match pitting the last edition’s finalists will kick off at 10pm tonight behind closed doors amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Al Sadd edged Al Arabi 2-1 in the 2020 Amir Cup final last December at the brand new Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium – a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 venue.
