Gala Concert to be held in Tralee next week will celebrate 800 years of the Dominicans in Ireland
It was back in 1224, three years after the death of St. Dominic, that 12 members of the Dominican order travelled from Oxford to Dublin, setting up a priory on the north bank of the Liffey, where the Four Courts now stand. From here, the Order rapidly expanded to most of the cities and large towns of Ireland, coming to Tralee in 1243 where they’ve had a continuous presence ever since.
