The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted rain or thundershowers in all eight divisions in the next 24 hours, commencing 9am today (7 May). "Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur
We expect the cyclone Sitrang to become a Severe Cyclone for some time during the next few hours as it does have some sea travel left and some favourable conditions. Thereafter, it is likely to lose some of its intensity as it moves closer to coast. Dry North westerly winds may hamper its further intensification.
The system will head towards Bangladesh and not make any direct hit over the Indian mainland. Sitrang may become a Severe Cyclone also for some time, but due to the intrusion and entrainment with land, the system may become weak and will see rapid degeneration after it makes a landfall.
