In November, researchers reported the drug lecanemab slowed the progression of Alzheimer's disease. The effect was modest, but it has generated tremendous excitement because it was the first time a drug had been shown to be able to affect the course of this relentless, incurable disease.

The program is being led by Dr. Daniela Zarnescu, a Molecular and Cellular Biology faculty member and experienced Beckman Mentor. Faculty mentors are drawn from three UArizona departments within the College of Science: Chemistry and Biochemistry, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Molecular and Cellular Biology.
