Methamphetamine has played a role in the lives of at least half a dozen Coast residents who have had their day in Maroochydore District Court this year.
From drug deals to stabbings and even a torture, the common denominator for some of the most shocking cases heard has been the highly addictive substance.
The impact methamphetamine has on users is heard like a broken record in Sunshine Coast courts as lawyers and defendants repeatedly share how addictions have broken relationships, fuelled crime and caused financial hardship.
Crown prosecutor Stipe Drinovac told a court last week that methamphetamine wreaked havoc on the community as a Woombye dad was placed on parole for dealing the drug. ....

Man accused of torturing teenager to stand trial

A trial date has been set for a man accused of holding a teenager captive and torturing him for days, tying him to a bed and beating him with a shovel.
Police allege Michael James Sculac, then 48, brutally assaulted and held the 19-year-old against his will at an illegal bush camp in Eenie Creek in March 2019.
The alleged victim had injuries including scratches, bruising, black eyes and bruises to his thighs consistent with shoe-sole impressions, a court previously heard.
