CAR park charges in Dorset are to be increased - but local residents will be able to offset the cost with the introduction of two new permit schemes.
A BIKE shelter will be removed after a survey revealed overwhelming support for plans to provide better facilities closer to the town centre. The bike shelter on Westham Bridge in Weymouth has been in a bad way for a few years - it has repeatedly been damaged by vandals who set fire to it, climbed on it and broke into it. The first vandal attack happened within a few weeks of it opening. When it first opened in 2013 lots of cyclists made use of the shelter, but usage has dropped off over the years leaving the facility with far fewer users than envisaged.

DORSET'S protected landscape is being given a £500,000 boost. Farmers and land managers in Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) are to be given grants to make improvements to the natural environment, cultural heritage and public access. The three-year programme, Farming in Protected Landscapes, opened on July 1 to support nature recovery, mitigate the effects of climate change, and provide ways for people to discover, enjoy and understand the landscape.
