Dorset Council to propose stopping funding to three TICs

DORSET Council has proposed stopping funding to its final three Tourist Information Centres (TICs) as it cannot afford to pay for them.
These are based in Sherborne, Dorchester and Wareham, and the authority plans to investigate alternative ways of providing these services in the future.
The three TICs cost around £200,000 each year to operate and employ 12 part-time workers.
Around 30 million people visit Dorset annually, with around 93,000 people visiting one of the three TICs during 2019/20.
There are five other TICs, in Blandford, Shaftesbury, Bridport, Swanage and Wimborne, which are run by other organisations, such as volunteers or town and parish councils. ....

FUNDING for Tourist Information Centres(TICs) will be withdrawn by Dorset Council under proposals being considered later this month.
The council currently pays out around £200,000 and employs 12 staff to run the centres in Wareham, Sherborne and Dorchester. They received 93,000 visitors during 2019/20.
But now it says it cannot afford to run the centres and will look at alternative ways of providing them in the future.
Five other TICs in the Dorset Council are already run by other organisations such as town and parish councils. They are in Blandford, Swanage, Wimborne, Shaftesbury and Bridport.
Some areas, including Weymouth no longer have TICs at all. ....
