Forty percent of third grade students in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools are proficient in reading. Teachers in the district have undergone two years of professional learning to improve instruction and student outcomes, but there are some barriers to literacy that schools alone can’t break.

Literacy Project Needs Volunteers Read Write Spell needs volunteer reading tutors to serve kindergarten through third-grade public-school students. We provide all of the training and ongoing support necessary for success. Due to the COVID pandemic, the need for tutoring support is greater than ever before. An online information session for people interested in learning more about the program will be held on Tuesday, August 9th at noon on zoom.
