Four in five GPs say doctor shortages and heavy workload are putting patient safety increasingly at risk, a poll by the Rebuild General Practice campaign reveals.
Patients must be seen by the same family doctor to ensure their safety, the health and safety watchdog has said.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS), which polled 4,984 households, found 10 per cent didn't manage to make contact with their practice when they last tried.
It comes as face-to-face appointments fell to their lowest level in 12 months.
